Why does the word "God" and "Lord" is used in the Bible? (Part One)

     The use of the word "God" in the Bible is still questioned by some users specifically Bible Indonesia Bible Institute publications. This issue came to the surface, this is because there are some groups who until recently also reject the use of the word "GOD" and wants to revive the use of the name "Yahweh" or "Yahweh". In the Hebrew text is actually the name "Yahweh" or "Yahweh" is written only with the four consonants ("YOD" - "HE" - "WAW" - "HE", "YHWH") without vowels. But until now there is an adamant, the fourth of this letter should be pronounced. In the translation of the Bible Institute of Indonesia is considered to have distorted, even misleading the Christians in this country (Indonesia). 

     Some critical questions that arise: "Are Indonesian Bible Institute entrusted by the churches to translate the Bible has made a fundamental mistake?. Where exactly lies the problem?. Some of the following explanations would laid to review briefly the various considerations that underlie the Bible Institute Indonesia used the word "God" and "Lord" in the Bible. Why Indonesian Bible Society used the word "God" in the Bible both Old Testament and New Testament? In the Bible, New Living Translation (1974) which is widely used in the homeland of Indonesia, by both Catholics and Protestants, that the word "Allah" is an equivalent of the word 'ELOHIM,' ELOAH, and 'EL which in the Hebrew Bible can be seen in some part of them:

1. Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God ('ELOHIM) created the heavens and the earth."

2. Deuteronomy 32:17: "They sacrifice to evil spirits that are not of God ('ELOAH).

3. Psalm: "My God (EL), my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

     In terms of language, that can’t be denied, the word 'ELOHIM,' ELOHA and 'EL associated with the root word' L, the god who was worshiped in the world of "ancient Semitic." EL, ILU or god is allied forms are commonly used for the supreme god. Ancient Israel nation was wearing a term used by the nations around it. Does that mean they embrace polytheism? Of course, not! Ancient Israel understood the words that are new. They worship is the only Creator of heaven and earth. Processes like these which until now continue to roll, when the word of God to reach many nations and cultures around the world. Some groups who reject the word "GOD" is of the opinion that the word should not be present in the Christian Bible. Some gave the reason that "God" is the name of God that is worshiped by Muslims. There are also linking him with the gods of the Arabs. If this stance is true and accurate, thus the use of 'EL,' ELOAH and 'ELOHIM must be stricken from the Hebrew Bible!. Anyway there are some inscriptions found in the sixth century shows that the word "Allah" was used by Orthodox Christians before the birth of Islam. 

     To date countries which have a community-Christian country such as Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, Jordan and Lebanon are taking the word "GOD" in their Bibles. So, the word "GOD" can’t be claimed as belonging to one religion only. Policies Indonesian Bible Society translate 'ELOHIM,' ELOAH and 'EL at all is not new. The first Bible translation into the Greek language which is about the third century AD, is the oldest example we have. 

     Translation that we know by the name "Septuagint" was done in Alexandria, Egypt, and is intended for the Greek-speaking Jews. In the Book of Genesis 1:1, for example, the Septuagint uses the term "THEOS" which is usually used for the Greek gods. In fact, in the New Testament also uses the same word, such as the following example: "Blessed be God (THEOS), Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 1:3). Sure, "THEOS" in this quotation is not understood as polytheistic gods.
